A method for the recovery of at least one of an organic acid or an organic acid amide, such as heat stable lactic acid or lactamide, from a feedstream (1) including mixing said feedstream that comprises the organic acid and/or organic acid amide with at least one azeotroping agent (2) in reactor (3). The azeotroping agent is a hydrocarbon capable of forming at least one heteroazeotrope with the organic acid or the organic acid amide. The mixture is heated to produce a vapor stream (11) and the vapor stream is further heated to separate components or it can be condensed in condenser (12) into a liquid stream. The liquid stream is capable of being separated into a first phase (18) and a second phase (17). The liquid stream can be further distilled or, alternatively, the two phases of the liquid stream can be separated. The first phase can be separated from the remainder of the liquid stream resulting in recovery of the organic acid and/or organic acid amide. The recovered organic acid and/or organic acid amide can be further purified and/or concentrated from the separated first phase.

L'invention concerne un procédé pour récupérer au moins soit un acide organique soit un amide d'acide organique, tels qu'un acide lactique ou un lactamide thermostables, à partir d'un courant d'alimentation (1). Ce procédé consiste à mélanger ledit courant d'alimentation qui comprend l'acide organique et/ou l'amide d'acide organique avec au moins un agent de distillation azéotropique (2) dans un réacteur (3). L'agent de distillation azéotropique est un hydrocarbure capable de former au moins un hétéroazéotrope avec l'acide organique ou l'amide d'acide organique. Le mélange est chauffé pour produire un courant de vapeur (11) et ce courant de vapeur est ultérieurement chauffé pour séparer les constituants, ou il peut être condensé dans un condensateur (12) en un courant liquide. Ce courant liquide peut être séparé en une première phase (18) et une seconde phase (17). Ce courant liquide peut être ultérieurement distillé, ou, dans un mode de réalisation différent, les deux phase du courant liquide peuvent être séparées. La première phase peut être séparée du reste du courant liquide, ce qui a pour résultat la récupération de l'acide organique et/ou de l'amide d'acide organique. L'acide organique et/ou l'amide d'acide organique peuvent être ultérieurement purifié et/ou concentré à partir de la première phase séparée.
