Abstract The invention relates to novel azo dyes of the formula Image (1) in which R is C1-4-alkyl or C2-4-alkoxyalkyl and X is hydrogen, phenyl or naphthyl, or phenyl or naphthyl substituted by C1-4-alkyl, C1-4- alkoxy, halogen, carboxyl, sulfo, carbamoyl and sulfamoyl, and the benzene radical D can be optionally substituted by C1-4-alkyl, C1-4- alkoxy, halogen, nitro, acetylamino, ureido, hydroxyl, carboxyl, sulfo, carbamoyl and sulfamoyl, the azo dye of the formula (I) containing one and not more than one strongly acid group conferring solubility in water, their preparation and their use for dyeing and printing textile material.
