ABSTRACT Azo pigments of the formula Image where X and Y are the same or different and are selected from the group consisting of -H, -R1, -OR1,-Cl -CONH2, -NO2 and -SO2NH2, where -R1 is lower alkyl; and -R is Image , where -R2, -R3 and-R4 are the same or different and are selected from the group consisting of -H, -OR1,-R1 and -Cl; Image ; where -R5, -R6, and-R7 are the same or different and are selected from the group consisting of -H,-OR1, -R1 and -Cl; Image where -R8 is -H or -Cl and Image The pigments are prepared by an in situ diazotization- coupling reaction in which an optionally substituted anthranilamide is reacted with a coupler in the presence of a diazotization agent and an acid in an aqueous medium at a pH range 1.0 to 7.0 at preferably 10°C to 50°C.
