Two purified and isolated cryI-type genes were obtained from a novel B.t. strain. One gene, designated cryIF, has a nucleotide base sequence coding for the amino acid sequence illustrated in Figure 1. The 134 kDa crystal protein, designated CryIF, produced by this gene is toxic to European corn borer larvae and other lepidopteran insects. The second gene, designated cryIX, produces a crystal protein of about 81 kDa, designated CryIX, that is also toxic to lepidopteran insects.
