- 16 - ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An exercise and testing apparatus for the back comprising hip securing members and shoulder gripping members to receive the hips and shoulders of the user. A gear box driven by an input shaft is provided to receive drive from a primary mover able to generate a reciprocating drive. A first output from the gear box extends to the gripping members to reciprocably rotate the members and a second output from the gear box extends to the gripping members to reciprocate the gripping members forwardly and rearwardly. The first and second outputs are selected by the user so that the device can be used to exercise the back by rotation or by flexion and extension.
