ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The back filter automatic vehicle wash water reclaim system of the present invention includes wash and rinse bays with wash and rinse sumps being provided for collecting used water therefrom. Two pairs of back wash filter tanks are pro- vided for receiving used water from the rinse sumps and such tanks are characterized by the fact that water can be flowed in the reverse direction therethrough to clean such filter tanks for future filtering of rinse water. The filter tanks are con- nected with the rinse sump by means of rinse conduits which connect the inlets of such filter tanks in parallel. The out- lets of such filter tanks are connected with one another and a back wash conduit is provided which leads from the respective inlets of the filter tanks to a separator pump which directs back wash water through a separator for return to the wash water sump for subsequent use in spraying through a rinse arch and onto the surface of a vehicle to be washed. Valves are pro- vided for selectively controlling the water flow from the rinse pump during the vehicle rinse mode to direct such water in a forward direction through such pairs of filter tanks and to the rinse arch. During the back wash mode, such control system actuates the rinse pump and valves in the rinse and back wash conduits to selectively direct the water first in a forward direction through one pair of filter tanks to be returned through the back wash conduit to such separator pump to be directed to the separator itself and back to the wash water sump for subsequent use in vehicle wash. The control system is also operative to subsequently direct the water from the rinse sump in a forward direction through the other pair of filter tanks and then in a reverse direction through such one pair of filter tanks to thereby back wash such one pair of filter tanks and direct the back wash water also through the separator to the wash sump.
