- 10 - ABSTRACT A back-up guide for vehicles includes a curb block for stopping the rearward motion of a vehicle at a predetermined location. A guide strip extends from one end of the curb block to provide the driver with a guide for positioning the vehicle from side-to-side. To provide for night time visibility, both the curb block and the guide strip are equipped with strip lighting, recessed into the curb block and the guide strip. At the junction of the two an upright standard carries a motion sensor that turns the lights on when a vehicle is approaching the guide. The sensor may be a motion sensor, a photocell or a receiver receiving a signal transmitted from the vehicle. Another embodiment of the sensor is a pressure tube laid out upon the ground and actuated when a vehicle drives over the tube.
