The invention relates to a method and apparatus for producing high density slurry and paste backfills for use in mining operations and to associated backfill paste production facilities which incorporate the aforesaid method and apparatus. The high density slurry or paste is produced from a mill tailings mixture in a silo (11) which includes a percolation/decant device (12) for percolating water out of the mill tailings mixture and for decanting clarified water (64) from atop the settled tailings (66). While settling occurs, air is introduced from the bottom (13) of the silo (11) to agitate the mixture to ensure substantially homogeneous settlement of the solids. Once settled, the resultant high density slurry or paste is fluidized by air in order to give the paste more readily flowable characteristics. The flowable paste can then be mixed with a setting agent and pumped or transported to the mine site to be used as a settable backfill.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un dispositif servant à produire des pâtes ou des boues liquides de remplissage extrêmement denses afin de les mettre en application dans des exploitations minières, ainsi que l'équipement associé de production de pâtes de remplissage incorporant ce procédé et ce dispositif. On produit ces pâtes ou ces boues liquides à partir d'un mélange de déchets d'usine dans un silo (11) comprenant un appareil de filtrage et de décantation (12) servant à filtrer l'eau hors de ce mélange et à effectuer la décantation de l'eau clarifiée (64) depuis le sommet des déchets d'usine déposés (66). Pendant le dépôt, on introduit de l'air depuis le fond (13) du silo (11) afin d'agiter le mélange, ce qui permet aux solides de se déposer de façon pratiquement homogène. Après leur dépôt, on fluidifie à l'air la pâte ou la boue liquide extrêmement denses obtenues, de manière à conférer à la pâte des caractéristiques coulantes améliorées. On peut ensuite mélanger la pâte coulante avec un agent durcissant et la pomper ou la transporter vers la mine dans le but de l'utiliser en tant que pâte de remplissage durcissante.
