A backflow valve for use in a post-mix carbonator system for preventing the backflow of carbonated fluid, thereby preventing the contamination of the fresh water supply, and indicating when such a backflow condition has occurred. In a first embodiment the valve comprises a check seat body which houses an elastomeric valve member, and a sight glass body for viewing the position of the elastomeric valve member. The valve also comprises top and base connectors for connecting the valve to the fluid carrying line and a shut-off/flush valve for controlling the flow of fluid through the device. The elastomeric valve member allows the flow of fluid from the supply to the outlet when the fluid pressure at the supply exceeds the pressure at the outlet and prevents the reverse flow of fluid when the pressure at the outlet exceeds the pressure at the supply. As the pressure downstream increases, the elastomeric valve member is forced in the upstream direction over a plurality of steps in the check seat body. As the elastomeric valve member passes over each step, it engages the step and is thereby prevented from moving downstream. The position of the elastomeric valve member may be observed through a sight glass body which has a line marking the normal position of the elastomeric valve member. In a second embodiment the elastomeric valve member is slidably disposed within a retaining chamber that is positioned between the upstream and downstream portions of the valve. Under normal operating conditions, the elastomeric valve member is in a normal first position allowing fluid flow therethrough; however, in a backflow condition, the elastomeric valve member slides into a second position within the retaining chamber and fluid flow is restricted. In addition, once the elastomeric valve member is in the second position, it is secured in place and a backflow condition is thereby indicated.
Cette invention concerne un dispositif antirefoulement pour gazéificateur à post-mélange. Il a pour fonction d'empêcher le refoulement de liquide gazéifié vers la source d'alimentation en eau et la contamination de celle-ci, en plus de signaler lorsque les conditions propices à un refoulement sont réunies. Une première variante du dispositif comporte un corps formant siège de clapet à l'intérieur duquel se trouve un clapet élastomère et une partie transparente formant voyant de liquide et permettant d'observer la position dudit clapet. Le dispositif comprend également un raccord supérieur et un raccord inférieur au moyen desquels il se raccorde dans une canalisation d'alimentation ainsi qu'un robinet d'isolement/de vidange permettant de régler l'écoulement du liquide. Le clapet élastomère permet l'écoulement de liquide d'amont (source d'alimentation) en aval (point d'utilisation) lorsque la pression d'alimentation dépasse la pression au point d'utilisation, mais interdit l'écoulement en sens inverse lorsque la pression aval dépasse la pression amont. € mesure que la pression aval augmente, le clapet élastomère est repoussé vers l'amont et au-delà d'une série de gradins précédant le siège de clapet. Chaque gradin dépassé par le clapet a pour fonction d'empêcher le retour de celui-ci vers l'aval. Le voyant de liquide susmentionné permet de contrôler la position du clapet grâce à un trait repérant la position normale de celui-ci. Dans une seconde variante du dispositif, le clapet élastomère est monté de façon à pouvoir coulisser à l'intérieur d'une enceinte de retenue située entre ses parties amont et aval. En conditions normales, le clapet se trouve dans une première position où il permet l'écoulement de liquide vers l'aval; en conditions de refoulement, il glisse vers une seconde position dans l'enceinte de retenue et bloque l'écoulement du liquide. De plus, lorsque le clapet se trouve à sa seconde position, il y reste bloqué pour indiquer une situation potentielle de refoulement.
