A method and apparatus for fusing a bell connector to the end of a corrugated thermoplastic pipe are disclosed in which an expandable mandrel grips a preformed bell and a pipe support grips a pipe co-axial with the longitudinal axis of the bell. A pipe trimmer for facing the pipe end may be moved into and out of the axis of the pipe if necessary for trimming the pipe end to provide a uniform planar flange face and a heater, combined with a supporting flange, moved sequentially into and out of the axis of the pipe and bell for heating the opposed faces of the trimmed end of the pipe and the end of the bell to a desired fusing temperature. Upon heating of the opposed faces of the bell and the pipe to a predetermined fusing temperature, the said faces of the bell and the pipe are abutted against each other, with the back side of the corrugated pipe flange face fully supported by the supporting flange, i.e. backing ring, at a predetermined pressure for a time sufficient to fuse the bell and pipe together.
Présentation d'une méthode et d'un dispositif permettant de joindre par fusion un raccord femelle à l'extrémité d'un tuyau ondulé en matière thermoplastique. Dans cette méthode, un mandrin expansible saisit l'emboîtement préformé d'un tuyau et un support de tuyau saisit un tuyau qui est dans le même axe que l'axe longitudinal de l'emboîtement. Une machine à ébavurer pour le surfaçage de l'extrémité du tuyau peut être entrée dans le tuyau et en être sortie, si c'est nécessaire, afin d'ébavurer l'extrémité du tuyau pour disposer d'une surface plane à bride, et un appareil de chauffage, couplé à une bride de support, peut être déplacé en séquence à l'intérieur et à l'extérieur de l'axe du tuyau et de l'emboîtement afin de chauffer les faces opposées de l'extrémité ébavurée du tuyau et l'extrémité de l'emboîtement à la température voulue. En chauffant les faces opposées de l'emboîtement et du tuyau à une température de fusion prédéterminée, les faces de l'emboîtement et du tuyau se touchent, et le côté arrière de la surface à bride du tuyau ondulé est totalement soutenu par la bride de support, soit la bague-support, selon une pression prédéterminée pendant suffisamment de temps pour joindre par fusion l'emboîtement et le tuyau.
