2094032 9206805 PCTABS00011 A system for reducing looseness and backlash generally associated with transfer feed press feed systems (28) that includes a driven tensioning device (150) that exerts continuous tension on the drive system to ensure positive, slip-free meshing of the drive components. The tensioning device (150) includes a tensioning sprocket (152) that is coupled to a sprocket (156) of the driven system by a chain or the like (154). An actuator (160) positions the tensioning sprocket (152) to maintain tension on the chain (154), and, therefore, the drive system. An additional tensioning device (182), such as a spring-biased sprocket (184), is also positioned against the chain (154) to prevent any looseness from developing during operation.
