A backup pad for engaging and supporting abrasive sheets, the backup pad being mounted securely to a drive shaft to prevent relative rotation thereto, and to allow easy mounting and dismounting of the backup pad to the mounting shaft without the use of tools. The backup pad includes a body comprising a front surface and a back surface, releasable engagement means provided on the front surface for releasably engaging an abrasive article, and a mounting boss provided on said rear surface. The mounting boss includes a first end facing away from the body, and an opening in the first end of the boss, the opening being formed by an inner surface generally perpendicular to said body and defining a non-circular cross section. The opening includes elastic means such as an o-ring for releasably engaging a drive shaft mounted in said opening. Also disclosed is a method of using such a backup pad.
Un bloc support servant à retenir et supporter des feuilles abrasives est monté solidement sur un axe d'entraînement pour empêcher la rotation relative par rapport à ce dernier et pour permettre d'effectuer facilement le montage du bloc support sur l'axe de montage et le démontage dudit bloc support sans devoir utiliser d'outils. Le bloc support comprend un corps présentant des surfaces avant et arrière, un système de retenue desserrable prévu sur la surface avant pour retenir de manière libérable un article abrasif et une protubérance de montage prévue sur la surface arrière. La protubérance de montage comprend une première extrémité située à distance du corps et une ouverture formée dans la première extrémité de la protubérance, l'ouverture étant formée par une surface interne qui est globalement perpendiculaire au corps et qui définit une section transversale non circulaire. L'ouverture comprend un dispositif élastique tel qu'un joint annulaire qui sert à retenir un axe d'entraînement monté dans ladite ouverture.
