Abstract of the Disclosure A culture medium used in testing for the susceptibility of bacteria to anti-folate antimicrobial agents comprising a bacterial growth medium in combination with purified thymidine phosphorylase of bacterial origin. Also provided is a method of preparing purified thymidine phosphorylase by extracting the crude enzyme for a bacterial culture followed by subjecting the extract to a fractionation procedure which includes adsorption to, for instance, calcium phosphate gel, followed by chromatography on DEAE cellulose and/or ECTEOLA-cellulose and dialysis.
