ABSTRACT The present invention relates to an FSH-binding inhibitor derived from a microorganism of the genus Serratia characterized by the following features: a molecular weight of over 6000; inactivation by heating at 60°C for 30 minutes; inactivation by pH below 4; insolubility in ether, 75% acetone and 40% ammonium sulfate; solubility in 80% ethanol; and absence of serine protease activity. The FSH-binding inhibitor of the present invention has use as a reagent in the study of FSH-receptor interactions and in purification of the FSH receptor.
