A combined baffle and reinforcing assembly (16) is provided for use within the cavity of a structural member (12, 14) to dampen acoustic transmissions through the cavity and provide reinforcement in a direction transverse to the longitudinal axis of the structural member (12, 14). The assembly (16) includes a synthetic carrier which includes an interior area, marginal rim, and an attachment member preferably in the form of a clip for insertion to the corresponding hole in the wall of the structural member, and a circumscribing and continuous band of reinforcing material extending around the periphery of the carrier. The assembly (16) may be economically manufactured by co- injection molding or insert molding of the thermally expansible material around the carrier. The marginal rim of the carrier may include base wall and a support flange for receiving the thermally expansible material thereon.

Cette invention concerne un ensemble déflecteur-renfort combiné (16) qui s'utilise dans la cavité d'un élément structurel (12, 14) pour amortir la transmission acoustique au travers de ladite cavité et assurer un renforcement dans le sens perpendiculaire à l'axe longitudinal de l'élément structurel (12, 14). L'ensemble (16) comprend un élément porteur synthétique comprenant une région intérieure, un flasque périphérique et un élément de fixation, de préférence sous forme d'attache, qui vient s'insérer dans un trou correspondant de la paroi de l'élément structurel, et un cordon circulaire et continu de matériau de renfort disposé à la périphérie de l'élément porteur. Il est possible de réaliser économiquement l'ensemble (16) par moulage à co-injection ou par moulage d'insertion du matériau thermo-expansible autour de l'élément porteur. Le flasque marginal de l'élément porteur peut comporter une paroi de base et une collerette support destinée à recevoir le matériau thermo-expansible.
