A bag holder for a plastic bag of the type having a closed wall defining a mouth. The bag holder comprises a bar having at least two longitudinally spaced-apart pins extending from one side of the bar, the pins piercing the wall of the bag adjacent the mouth of the bag from within the bag and entering the ground to a position where the bar is against the ground pinning the bag wall between it and the ground. The bag holder can include a loading plate for guiding material from outside the bag into the bag through its mouth. The plate is pinned flat onto the ground with the bag wall between it and the ground by the pins on the bar, the bar adjacent the plate in this position.
