A safety and energy savings device which will control underground mine ventilation air systems. These Balanced Ventilation Doors will shut down, isolate, and control zones or levels of a mine; either in or out of service. These Balanced Ventilation Door Systems relate generally to the control of underground mine air ventilation systems. In mine workings; the obvious first concern is the safey of workers underground. Primary in this concern is the control of breathing air. This control of breathing air must be done safely and reliably. The actual operation of existing mine ventilation doors is in itself a safety concern. The reason for this is that ventilation doors in past have worked in direct opposition to the ventilation air flow from the fans. Ventilation air flows can produce as much as 10 or 12 thousand pounds of thrust over the full surface of the doors. Existing ventilation doors are designed to work in direct opposition to this thrust, and therefore require large actuators with extremely high power and force. These high power actuators in themselves create a multitude of dangerous conditions for workers, just by the very nature of their size and force.
