A bale moving apparatus provides a generally horizontal tow frame with a linear support axle assembly supported by a pair of opposing wheels for moving the tow frame over a terrain surface. A tow bar assembly provides a tow strut, a rest bar, and a winch. A bale support assembly is pivotally joined to, and extends upwardly from the support axle assembly, and is rotatable between an upright attitude and a tilted-back attitude preferably at an angle of between 30 and 45 degrees with respect to the horizontal. The bale support assembly provides a bale rest surface of sufficient size for supporting a hay bale when the support assembly is tilted back. Extending normally from the rest surface is a triangle formation of bale impaling spikes in mutually parallel disposition, such that with the bale support assembly positioned in the upright attitude, one of the bale impaling spikes is in position for impaling a hay bale above center, and the other two bale impaling spikes are in position for impaling the hay bale in spaced apart positions below. The winch is joined with the bale support assembly by a cable enabled for pulling the bale support assembly into the tilted-back attitude so as to enable resting the hay bale on the bale rest surface during travel.
