A monitoring device such as a cart scanning system for a supermarket check-out employs a series of scanning devices located beside the cashier's check-out, for purposes of detecting the presence of objects on the bottom tray of a shopping cart. The correct functioning of such a scanning system requires precise aiming of the individual scanning devices and preferably a test readout to give evidence of the satisfactory operation of each of the scanning devices, in view of their integrated relation in the total functioning of the system. Theaiming is achieved by a special adjustable socket mount for each scanning device, and a series of signal outlet sockets accommodating a removable plug- in test unit with LED readouts, for visually checking the operation of each one of the scanning devices.
