ABSTRACT A ball pitching machine is disclosed. The machine has a base member with two motors mounted in spaced relation on it. A wheel is mounted on the drive shaft of each motor in such a manner that the two wheels rotate in a substantially common plane, but in opposite directions. V-shaped elastomeric rims are mounted in spaced axial relation, one on the circumference of each of said wheels, the spacing between the elastomeric rims defining a nip area into which the ball is fed. The rims have a groove to provide an area of reduced cross section at the apex of the V-shape. The radially outer surface of each rim is inclined at an angle of approximately 55 degrees to the plane of the wheel, such that the rim defines a substantially V-shaped ball contacting surface. The ball is introduced into the nip area via a chute and is seized at four contact points, corresponding to the four elastomeric rims.
