Abstract A ball locking mechanism for releasably locking a movable member is provided with a ball which is arranged in apertures of a stationary member and is pressed by a slide member into one of several apertures of the movable member thereby locking such member in position. For unlocking the movable member, the slide member is moved until an aperture provided therein becomes coaxial with the other apertures. The ball then slides out of the first-mentioned aperture. The movable member can then be moved until a further similar aperture is coaxial with the aperture in the stationary member. The tension applied by a spring on the slide member then slides the ball into this new aperture.
