BALL VALVE ABSTRACT The present invention concerns rotary ball valves for the control of fluid flow, having annular seals to seal the contacts between the ball and the valve body. In the prior art, pro- vision is made for adjusting the annular seals to compensate for wear and to assure tight sealing, but known adjustment means suffer from the deficiency that the seal cannot be incrementally adjusted to maintain a tight seal when the valve has been decoupled from the line. The present invention provides a seal carrier which is con- nected to the valve body by the use of screw threads, the thread lands having a width substan- tially less than the width of the grooves, so that the carrier can be retained in the body at all times by the thread, is adjustable, and is further adjustable by means of external axial force through the lost motion available from the partial thread width.
