A ballast includes a resonant inverter circuit which limits the voltage applied to a lamp when it fails to light. In one embodiment, the inverter includes first and second switching element having conduction states controlled by respective first and second control circuits. The second control circuit includes a third switching element which controls the conduction state of the second switching element. An end of life circuit includes a first threshold circuit coupled to the third switching element for disabling the inverter when the voltage applied to the lamp becomes greater than a first predetermined threshold. In another embodiment, the second control circuit includes a fourth switching element for controlling a duty cycle of the third switching element and the end of life circuit includes a second threshold circuit. When the lamp voltage becomes greater than a second predetermined threshold, the fourth switching element reduces the duty cycle of the third switching element.
L'invention concerne un régulateur comprenant un circuit convertisseur résonant qui limite la tension appliquée à une lampe lorsqu'elle ne s'allume pas. Dans une forme d'exécution, le régulateur comprend un premier et un second élément de commutation dont les états de conduction sont commandés respectivement par un premier et un second circuit de commande. Le second circuit de commande comprend un troisième élément de commutation qui commande l'état de conduction du second élément de commutation. Un circuit de fin de vie comprend un premier circuit à seuil couplé au troisième élément de commutation de manière à pouvoir neutraliser le convertisseur lorsque la tension appliquée à la lampe dépasse un premier seuil prédéterminé. Dans une forme d'exécution différente, le second circuit de commande comprend un quatrième élément de commutation permettant de commander le facteur de charge du troisième élément de commutation et le circuit de fin de vie comprend un second circuit à seuil.
