The present invention is a system and technique for the electromagnetic heating of ballast water to kill unwanted organisms. More specifically, the invention is based on a novel applicator (30) design that is easily installed on ships or used in ports. It incorporates an array of channels that simultaneously heat, by electromagnetic means, and convey the water from storage, or into storage tanks. The applicator is basically a large hollow metal pipe (23) containing open ended wave guide-like structures (31) for water conveyance and heating.

Cette invention concerne un système et une technique permettant d'assurer le chauffage électromagnétique d'eau de lestage afin de tuer des organismes indésirables. Plus particulièrement, cette invention est fondée sur un nouveau concepteur d'applicateur (30) conçu pour être facilement installé sur des navires ou utilisé dans des ports. Cet applicateur contient une matrice de canaux qui chauffent simultanément, grâce à un moyen électromagnétique, et acheminent l'eau en direction ou provenant des cuves de stockage. L'applicateur susmentionné consiste en un tuyau métallique creux (23) qui contient des structures de type guide d'ondes à extrémités ouvertes (31) pour l'acheminement ou le chauffage de l'eau.
