A ballast having an inverter and a direct current blocking capacitor coupled in series with a ballast output includes a control circuit for providing adaptive end-of- lamp-life protection. During operation, control circuit executes the steps of measuring and storing a reference value for the voltage across the DC blocking capacitor, monitoring the voltage across the DC blocking capacitor, and protecting the inverter and lamp sockets in response to the voltage across the DC blocking capacitor departing from the reference value by more than a predetermined threshold amount.
Ballast muni d'un onduleur et d'un condensateur bloquant le courant continu, branché en série avec un câble de sortie du ballast, qui comprend un circuit de commande assurant une protection adaptative de fin de vie utile d'une ampoule. En fonctionnement, un circuit de commande exécute les opérations suivantes : mesure et enregistrement d'une valeur de référence pour la tension traversant le condensateur bloquant le courant continu surveillance de la tension traversant ledit condensateur; protection de l'onduleur et les douilles d'ampoule en réponse à une variation de tension dépassant une valeur limite prédéterminée par rapport à la valeur de référence lorsqu'elle traverse le condensateur susmentionné.
