The balloon catheter comprises a shaft 1 with an elongated dilatation balloon 3 mounted in the vicinity of the distal end 2 thereof. Means for preventing expansion of balloon segments are mounted on shaft 1 proximally of the balloon and comprise an armature enclosed in a sleeve 11 movable over a proximal portion of the balloon.
