A balloon catheter is provided having an expandable distal portion (22), said expandable portion having a proximal end, a distal end and distal expansion means, said expandable portion being adapted for expansion at its distal end, from its distal end to its proximal end. A stent delivery system is provided to facilitate introduction and placement of a stent, and includes a catheter (112) having an expandable distal portion constructed and arranged for expanding the outer diameter of the catheter from a contracted state to an expanded state, said distal portion further comprising a balloon (122), and a stent (130) positioned around the distal portion of the catheter around the balloon, said stent having a proximal end and a distal end and further having a contracted condition, said stent being sized in the contracted condition to closely surround the balloon in the contracted state, and being adapted to expand to an expanded condition from its distal end to its proximal end in response to expansion of the balloon member from its distal end.
L'invention concerne un cathéter à ballonnet doté d'une portion distale expansible (22), laquelle présente une extrémité proximale, une extrémité distale ainsi que des moyens de dilatation distaux, et est conçue pour se dilater au niveau de son extrémité distale, de celle-ci vers son extrémité proximale. Un système d'acheminement sert à faciliter l'introduction et la mise en place d'un extenseur, et comprend un cathéter (112) présentant une portion distale expansible, conçue et agencée pour dilater le diamètre extérieur du cathéter, d'un état contracté vers un état dilaté, cette portion distale comportant en outre un ballonnet (122) ainsi qu'un extenseur (130) placé autour de la portion distale du cathéter, autour du ballonnet. Cet extenseur présente une extrémité proximale et une extrémité distale, ainsi qu'un état contracté, et il est dimensionné à l'état contracté pour entourer étroitement le ballonnet, lui-même à l'état contracté; ledit extenseur est conçu pour se dilater et prendre un état dilaté, de son extrémité distale vers son extrémité proximale, en réponse à la dilatation du ballonnet, à partir de l'extrémité distale de celui-ci.
