A balloon catheter is used for inflation of a lumen and includes a shaft having proximal and distal ends and a lumen therethrough. The shaft distal end is attached to an inflatable balloon which has a lumen in communication with the lumen of the shaft. The balloon has a reinforcing metallic layer molded therein which is made of a radioactive material, so that upon inflation of the balloon, the walls of a body lumen come into the proximity of the radioactive metallic layer.
