An expandable balloon for a medical device having a static state, at least one first expanded state, and at least one second expanded state, the expandable balloon (10) having a substantially polygonal geometric shape in a cross- sectioned view perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the balloon in the static state. The balloon may comprise atherotomes (14).
