Disclosed is a band moving device of a strapping machine for applying a band around a package, which band moving device is provided with an envelope drive having only one enveloping component, which is guided, by way of an inner surface, over at least two wheels. At least one of the two wheels is designed as a drive wheel that can be brought into operative connection with a drive motor to drive the enveloping component. The band may be pressed onto an outer surface of the enveloping component by means of a pressure pulley in order to produce, between the band and the enveloping component, a frictional force by means of which the band can be moved in one direction. The pressure pulley is arranged in a region in which the enveloping component wraps around one of the two wheels, thus making it possible for the enveloping component to be pressed against one of the two wheels by the pressure pulley. There is means for reversing the direction of rotation of the enveloping component, so that the band can be moved both in a feeding direction and in a tensioning direction. A further wheel is located opposite the outer surface of the enveloping component, and is designed as a tensioning wheel and, during a tensioning phase, presses the band onto the enveloping component in order to apply a band tension.

La poulie de pression est placée dans une zone dans laquelle l'élément de cerclage entoure une des deux roues, ce qui permet à la poulie de pression d'appuyer l'élément de cerclage contre une des deux roues. La présente invention prévoit un dispositif d'inversion de la direction de rotation de l'élément de cerclage afin que la bande puisse être déplacée dans une direction d'alimentation et dans une direction de tension. Une autre roue se trouve à l'opposé de la surface externe de l'élément de cerclage. Cette roue est conçue pour agir comme roue tendeuse qui, lors d'une phase de tension, appuie la bande contre l'élément de cerclage afin d'appliquer une tension à la bande.
