A wrapper 123 for cigarette manufacture includes one or more transversely extending band regions 126 applied by a printing technique, such as gravure printing. The band regions comprise starch, an anti-wrinkling agent such as 1,2 propylene glycol or glycerin, and optionally calcium carbonate. Any suitable printing technique can be used to apply the aqueous solution to the banded regions. The pattern of banded regions may be bands, stripes, two-dimensional arrays, undulated regions, and the like along and/or around the tobacco rod. The pattern can be applied in one or more layers. The pattern may be configured so that when a smoking article is placed on a substrate, at least two longitudinal locations along the length of the tobacco rod have film-forming compound located only on sides of the smoking article not in contact with the substrate. The invention also encompasses a smoking article 120 including such a wrapper around a column of tobacco to form a tobacco rod 122. A method of providing a smoking article having an ignition propensity not greater than 25% is also disclosed.
L'invention concerne un papier d'enrobage (123) destiné à la fabrication de cigarettes. Ce papier d'enrobage (123) comprend au moins une zone de rayures (126) s'étendant transversalement, cette zone (126) étant appliquée par une technique d'impression, notamment l'héliogravure. Les zones de rayures comprennent de l'amidon, un agent anti-plissement, notamment du propylèneglycol ou de la glycérine, et éventuellement du carbonate de calcium. On peut utiliser toute technique d'impression appropriée pour appliquer la solution aqueuse de l'invention sur les zones de rayures. Le motif des zones de rayures peut être constitué de rayures, de stries, d'agencements bidimensionnels, de zones ondulées, et analogues, situés le long de la tripe de tabac et/ou autour de cette tripe. Ce motif peut être appliqué sur une couche ou sur plusieurs couches. Ce motif peut-être conçu de sorte que, lorsqu'un article à fumer est placé sur un substrat, au moins deux emplacements longitudinaux situés le long de la tripe de tabac présentent un composant formant film situé uniquement sur les côtés de l'article à fumer qui ne sont pas en contact avec le substrat. L'invention concerne également un article à fumer (120) comprenant un papier d'enrobage enroulé autour d'une colonne de tabac pour former une tripe de tabac (122). L'invention concerne encore un procédé de production d'un article à fumer présentant une propension à l'inflammation inférieure ou égale à 25 %.
