ABSTRACT A bandpass filter having a plurality of cascaded wave-guide cavities has inter-cavity coupling means. One or more of the cavities is rotated relative to an input reference mode thereby causing quasi-orthogonal coupling structures to be introduced into said cavities. The rotation of one or more cavities enables symmetric or asymmetric amplitude and phase responses to be produced as desired. In previous filters, the asymmetrical characteristic of the phase response could not be controlled without destroying the equi-ripple character of the passband response. The filter can be used in channel multiplexers for satellite communica- tion systems. r
