A bandwidth control system for a network, the network having a host computer that includes a first interface and a second interface. A packet driver (108) adapted to be executed on the host computer is logically connected to the first network interface and the second interface. A traffic shaper (107) adapted to be executed on the host computer maintains a topology representation including one or more nodes. The traffic shaper performs priority and packet rate metering functions on the captured packets to match a set of rate conditions unique to each node in the topology representation of the network.
L'invention concerne un système de commande de largeur de bande pour un réseau, le réseau comportant un ordinateur central comprenant une première interface réseau ainsi qu'une seconde interface réseau. Un pilote de paquets adapté pour être exécuté sur l'ordinateur central est connecté logiquement à la premier interface réseau et à la seconde interface réseau. Le pilote de paquets capture des paquets reçus du réseau sur la première interface réseau. Un programme de mise en forme de trafic adapté pour être exécuté sur l'ordinateur central actualise une représentation topologique du réseau, la représentation topologique incluant un ou plusieurs noeuds. Le programme de mise en forme de trafic exécute des fonctions de mesure de priorités et de débit des paquets sur les paquets capturés afin de faire correspondre un ensemble de conditions de débit unique à chaque noeud dans la représentation topologique du réseau. Les paquets capturés sont renvoyés au pilote de paquets pour transmission au réseau sur la seconde interface réseau.
