A bar code symbol driven system for accessing information resources from information servers connected to communication networks, including the Internet. The system includes a bar code symbol reader (7a) for reading bar code symbols encoded with information representative of information resources stored in information servers connected to the Internet and supporting the TCP/IP standard. A computing platform (6) is provided for supporting an Internet browser. A telecommunication modem is operably connected to the computing platform in order to establish a two way telecommunication link between the Internet browser and an Internet service provider (ISP) connected to the Internet. In response to reading bar code symbols (8), the Internet browser automatically accesses information resources from Internet information servers (2) using the information encoded in bar code symbols read by the bar code symbol reader (7a).
L'invention concerne un système piloté par symboles sous forme de code à barres, destiné à accéder à des ressources d'information dans des serveurs d'information connectés à des réseaux de communication, notamment à l'Internet. Le système comprend un lecteur (7a) de symboles sous forme de codes à barres destiné à lire des symboles sous forme du codes à barres codés avec des informations caractéristiques des ressources d'information stockées dans des serveurs d'information connectés à l'Internet et supportant les protocoles standard TCP/IP. Un matériel informatique (6) est destiné à supporter un explorateur d'Internet. On connecte fonctionnellement un modem de télécommunication au matériel informatique, afin d'établir une liaison de télécommunication bidirectionnelle entre l'explorateur d'Internet et un fournisseur d'accès Internet (ISP) connecté à l'Internet. En réponse à la lecture de symboles (8) sous forme de codes à barres, l'explorateur d'Internet accède automatiquement aux ressources d'information, issues des serveurs (2) d'information d'Internet, à l'aide des informations codées dans les sous formes de codes à barres lus par le lecteur (7a) de symboles sous forme de codes à barres.
