SPECIFICATION ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A barking drum rotatable about a substantially horizontal axis has along spaced apart sections elongated bark openings extending in the longitudinal direction of the drum and in each sectioncircumferentially spaced apart from each other around the drum. The sections having the bark openings are positioned within areas along the drum wich have the lowest bending stresses deriving from its bearing.
