Methods and systems are provided for making a barrier coated plastic container (102), e.g., for packaged beverages. The system comprises a vacuum cell, a coating source (106) in the vacuum cell for supplying a coating vapor to an external surface of a plastic container (102) positioned within the vacuum cell, and gas feeds (115) for supplying one or more process gases into an interior space of the vacuum cell. The coating source heats and evaporates an inorganic coating material (108), such as metal or silicon, to form a coating vapor, which is energized to form a plasma. The process gases include a carbon- containing gas, such as acetylene. The coating vapor and/or plasma reacts with at least one of the process gases and a thin coating is deposited and bonded on the external surface of the plastic container, wherein the thin coating comprises carbon and inorganic material, e.g., an inorganic oxide.
Cette invention concerne des procédés et des systèmes permettant de produire un contenant (102) en plastique à revêtement protecteur destiné, par exemple, à recevoir des boissons conditionnées. Ce système comprend : une cellule sous vide ; une source de revêtement (106) disposée dans la cellule sous vide et permettant d'envoyer une vapeur de revêtement sur une surface externe d'un contenant (102) en plastique disposé à l'intérieur de la cellule sous vide ; ainsi que des sources d'alimentation en gaz (115) servant à envoyer un ou plusieurs gaz de traitement dans un espace intérieur de la cellule sous vide. La source de revêtement chauffe et évapore une matière de revêtement inorganique (108), par exemple un métal ou du silicium, afin de former une vapeur de revêtement, laquelle est mise sous tension pour former un plasma. Les gaz de traitement comprennent un gaz contenant du carbone, tel que l'acétylène. La vapeur de revêtement et/ou le plasma réagit avec au moins un des gaz de traitement, et une fine couche de revêtement est déposée et liée sur la surface externe du contenant en plastique, la fine couche de revêtement comprenant du carbone et une matière inorganique, telle qu'un oxyde inorganique.
