BARRIER COATINGS ON SPACECRAFT MATERIALS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A protective coating for the surfaces of organic polymers, to protect the surfaces against erosion by oxygen atoms, includes a thin protective barrier film on the surfaces. The film is deposited via a plasma, e.g., a low pressure glow discharge, or other suitable methods. The material of the film can comprise plasma polymers, inorganic insulating films, or semiconducting or conductive materials.
