A barrier device comprises a top wall, a bottom wall, opposed end walls and opposed side walls interconnected to form a hollow interior in which a pair of spaced openings are formed which extend between the side walls. An external reinforcement structure is provided to enhance the structural integrity of the barrier device, including first and second beams each located along one of the side walls which are connected to one another by a mounting device extending through the openings in the hollow interior, or, alternatively, are mounted within a seat formed in each side wall between the opposed ends of the barrier device. The beams of one barrier device are connected end-to-end with the beams of adjacent barrier devices to form an essentially continuous wall of barriers which resist disengagement from one another and exhibit improved resistance to being broken apart upon impact by a vehicle.

L'invention concerne un élément barrière présentant une paroi supérieure, une paroi inférieure, des parois d'extrémité opposées et des parois latérales opposées reliées entre elles de manière à former un intérieur creux dans lequel est pratiquée une paire d'ouvertures espacées s'étendant entre les parois latérales. Une structure de renforcement externe permet de renforcer l'intégrité structurale de cet élément barrière, laquelle structure comprend des première et seconde poutres chacune placées le long d'une des parois latérales, lesquelles poutres sont reliées l'une à l'autre par un dispositif de montage s'étendant à travers les ouvertures pratiquées dans l'intérieur creux ou, en variante, sont montées dans un logement formé dans chaque paroi latérale entre les extrémités opposées de l'élément barrière. Les poutres d'un élément barrière sont aboutées aux poutres d'éléments barrières adjacents pour former un mur sensiblement continu de barrières emboîtées de manière solide et possédant une résistance améliorée à la rupture sous l'impact d'un véhicule.
