A process and apparatus for reducing particulate, nitrogen oxides ("NOx"), sulfur dioxide ("SO2"), and mercury ("Hg") emis- sions from the combustion exhaust of fossil fuel fired plants while producing an end prod- uct that is commercially useful, comprising the steps of oxidizing Hg, NOx and SO2 us- ing a barrier, pulse, corona, or electron beam electrical discharge apparatus (100) to produce HgO and the acids HNO3 and H2SO4 col- lecting the HgO, acids and particulates in a wet ESP (120), and separating the particulates from the collected acid mixture, then separat- ing and concentrating the acids for industrial use.

L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil permettant d'une part, de réduire l'émission de particules, d'oxydes d'azote ("NOx"), de dioxyde de soufre ("SO2"), et de mercure ("Hg"), provenant des émanations de combustion de centrales à combustibles fossiles; et d'autre part, de produire un produit fini commercialisable. Le procédé de l'invention consiste à oxyder Hg, NOx et SO2 au moyen d'un appareil (100) de décharge par barrière, par impulsions, par effet de couronne, ou par faisceau électronique, pour produire du mercure élémentaire et les acides HNO3 et H2SO4; à recueillir le mercure élémentaire, les acides et particules dans un dépoussiéreur électrique (120) humide; et à séparer les particules du mélange acide recueilli, puis à séparer et à concentrer les acides en vue d'une utilisation dans l'industrie.
