A fabric having a unique combination of stain resistance, fluid barrier properties, aesthetic characteristics and drape ability is described, and a method of making such fabrics. The fabric includes a fabric substrate that has been treated with a low surface energy stain resist compound on at least one of its surfaces, and one or more layers secured to the other of its surfaces, with the layers providing the fabric with the unique combination of characteristics. In addition, the fabric is desirably provided with flame resisting and ultraviolet resisting characteristics, to enable it to be used as a seating material for transportation vehicles. Methods for making the fabric are also described.

L'invention concerne un tissu qui associe de façon unique une résistance aux taches, des propriétés de barrière aux fluides, des caractéristiques esthétiques et une possibilité de drapé, ainsi qu'un procédé de fabrication de ce type de tissu. Le tissu selon l'invention comprend un substrat dont au moins une face a été traitée avec un composé anti-taches à faible tension superficielle, ainsi qu'une ou plusieurs couches appliquées sur l'autre face du substrat, ces couches conférant au tissu ses caractéristiques uniques. Ce tissu présente également de préférence des caractéristiques d'ininflammabilité et de résistance aux ultraviolets pour pouvoir être utilisé comme matière de revêtement de sièges dans des véhicules de transport. L'invention concerne également des procédés de fabrication de ce tissu.
