A BASE MATERIAL FOR ARTIFICIAL LEATHER ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A base material for artificial leather having a water vapour absorption capacity of from 2 to 8% by weight, based on a fibre fleece impregnated with a rubber latex mixture containing a heat sensitizer, a quick-acting vulcanisation accelerator and, as expanding agent, a silicone oil emulsion or an inert, emulsifiable substance which is insoluble both in the rubber and the other constituents of the latex. After the impregnation of the fibre fleece, the latex mixture is coagulated by heat, vulcanised and then dried.
