A mobile wireless telecommunications system includes base stations (30) of a first type operating according to a first air interface, and base stations (36) of a second type operating according to a second air interface. Methods and apparatus are provided for handing over a mobile station (40) in the system from a first base station (30), which is of the first type, to a second base station (36), which is of the second type. A communications link is established over the first air interface between the mobile station (40) and the first base station (30). Data is received from the mobile station (40) responsive to a signal received by the mobile station (40) over the second air interface from the second base station (36), substantially without breaking the communications link with the first base station. The mobile station (40) is handed over from the first (30) to the second base station (36) responsive to the data received therefrom.
L'invention concerne un système de télécommunications mobile sans fil comprenant des stations de base (30) d'un premier type fonctionnant sur une première interface hertzienne, et des stations de base (36) d'un second type fonctionnant sur une seconde interface hertzienne. L'invention concerne également des procédés et des appareils permettant le transfert d'une station mobile (40) du système entre une première station de base (30), du premier type, et une seconde station de base (36), du second type. Une liaison de communication est établie sur la première interface hertzienne entre la station mobile (40) et la première station de base (30). Des données sont reçues en provenance de la station mobile (40) en réaction à un signal reçu par ladite station mobile (40) depuis la seconde station de base (36) sur la seconde interface hertzienne, sensiblement sans rupture de la liaison de communication avec la première station de base. La station mobile (40) est transférée de la première (30) à la seconde station de base (36) en réaction aux données reçues depuis ladite seconde station de base.
