An improved baseboard heater and method of manufacturing the same is provided. The baseboard heater has a back panel with at least one perforation therethrough for receiving a fastener. The perforation is comprised of intersecting slits through the back panel. Prior to receiving the fastener, the perforation is closed or essentially undetectable. A fastener can be easily inserted through the perforation without the need for additional tools or for drilling holes. The perforations are made by piercing the back panel with a die piece. The back panel is then passed between rollers to close the perforations, or to press the pierced metal flush with the remainder of the back panel. The baseboard heater has a heater rod with fins attached in a manner to restrain their movement on the heater rod. Hemi-spherical or conical indentations on the collar of the fin protrude into corresponding, similarly-shaped indentations on the heater rod. The specially configured indentations are formed by opposing press elements, at least one of which has a protrusion for forming the corresponding indentations.
