A combination of frames and a ladder which comprises an outer frame which would be positioned into a wall of a basement near the ceiling and above the ground or with a excavated area adjacent to it to enable persons to escape the basement without hindrance from the ground. This outer frame houses an inner frame which could contain a window or could be a solid device however usually it would contain a window to allow light and vision of the outside where the user would escape to. This inner frame is connected to the outer frame by an assembly of sliders and spacers which allow the inner frame to move inwardly into the basement and begin sliding in a downward motion between the beams of the ladder assembly. The inner frame is supported by a solid hinged lower frame to assist in the travel of the inner frame to clear the depth of the outer frame. The lower frame hinges to a horizontal position and becomes the top step of the ladder assembly. The ladder assembly is fastened to the lower frame and with sliders to the outer frame and is unable to be removed. This basement fire escape in it's closed position would be contained within the outer frame except for the ladder assembly which would hang in a vertical position from it's connection with the lower frame and lie against the inside wall of the basement. When the ladder is pulled away from the wall it actuates a release and allows the inner and lower frame to move inward and downward through the travel of the sliders and spacers to it's open position between and below the ladder beams to rest close to the wall and out of the way of the persons climbing up the ladder to exit through the outer frame to the outside of the building. This combination of frames, ladder and sliders and spacers moves together when the ladder is moved away from the wall to a climbing angle and rests against the ground and is held in place by the lower frame to support the weight of the person using the fire escape.

L'échelle est fixée au bâti inférieur et, avec les coulisses, au bâti extérieur, ce qui empêche de l'enlever. Cette sortie de secours de sous-sol, dans sa position fermée, est contenue dans le bâti extérieur, sauf l'échelle qui pend en position verticale depuis son point d'attache au bâti inférieur et repose contre le mur intérieur du sous-sol. Quand l'échelle est tirée à l'écart du mur, elle actionne un mécanisme qui dégage le bâti intérieur et le bâti inférieur qui peuvent alors se déplacer à l'intérieur et vers le bas grâce au jeu des coulisses et des cales vers la position ouverte entre les montants de l'échelle et sous ces derniers pour se placer près du mur et dégager la voie des gens qui montent dans l'échelle pour sortir par le bâti extérieur à l'extérieur du bâtiment. Cette combinaison de bâtis, d'échelle, de coulisses et de cales se déplace solidairement quand l'échelle est écartée du mur à un angle permettant d'y monter et qu'elle repose au sol et est maintenue en place par le bâti inférieur pour supporter le poids d'une personne utilisant la sortie de secours.
