The invention describes basic calcium aluminum hydroxy phosphites of the general formula Ca x Al2(OH)2(x+3-y)(HPO3)y~mH2O wherein x = 2-12, (see above formula) and m = 0-12, with the proviso that y ~ 1, if x = 2-8. The compounds according to the invention are particularly suited as stabilizers for halogen-containing polymers, in particular PVC.
