ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Basic metal dihydrocarbylphosphorodithioates and phosphoromonothioates are prepared by employing a catalyt- ic amount of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal hydroxide or mixtures thereof. Also basic, multiple metal complexes of various dihydrocarbylphosphorodithioic acids have been developed. These salts and complexes are highly effective antiwear and antioxidant additives for function- al fluids, e.g., lubricating oils.
