A basin to hold molten metal, specifically steel, having a refractory bottom, refractory walls, at least one nozzle mounted in the bottom to remove the molten metal from the basin, and a refractory stopper with a cavity, the stopper being placed in the bottom of the basin to receive a stream of molten metal from a ladle moving above the basin. The bottom of the stopper cavity is convex and the wall of the cavity is more or less vertical.
