A thrombus filter element (10) for placement within a blood vessel lumen defined by a blood vessel wall is disclosed. The thrombus filter element (10) includes a hub (12) having a proximal end, a distal end, and a lumen extending therethrough, a plurality of wires (18) extending from the hub (12), at least one end of each wire (18) being fixed to the hub (12) proximate the proximal end thereof, a plurality of struts (14) radiating away from the hub (12), the fixed end of each strut (14) being fixed to the hub (12) proximate the distal end thereof, and a slider rod (22) slidingly disposed within the lumen of the hub (12).
