A bath tub lifter includes a floor frame resting on the floor of a bath tub, a seat plate (2) and a backrest (3). A lifting means adjusts the height of the seat plate (2) and the backrest (3) between lowermost and uppermost end positions. The lifting means includes a driving means mounted to the backrest (3) and a telescopic lifting tube (4) actuated by the driving means. A spindle base (31) supports the lifting tube (4) from the floor frame. An automatic lock-release device couples the backrest (3) and the seat plate above the lowermost end position and releases the backrest and the seat plate (2) in the lowermost end position. The lock-release device includes at least one lock bolt (12) movably held at the backrest (3) for coupling the backrest (3) and the seat plate (2) above the lowermost end position, and at least one sliding guide (24) formed at the seat plate for actuating the at least one lock bolt (12).
