ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Leakage resistance in electrochemical cells is improved by the utilization of an elastomeric modified Type 2 BUR asphalt sealant material disposed between an insulative cell top and the cell container. The elastomeric material is substantially inert to the electrolyte and is present in an amount between 0. 5 to 10% by weight of the asphalt.
